Instructions
- Set up a double boiler and add 1.5" of water to the bottom of the pot.
- Measure/weigh your butters and oils.
- Add the coconut oil, shea butter and cocoa butter directly into the top pot (or I use a pyrex, glass measuring cup) and slowly melt over a low heat.
- Once all the butters are melted, stir to combine. Add the jojoba oil, stir again and turn off the heat.
- Lift the Pyrex out of the water and wipe down the outside with a cloth.
- Let the pyrex cool for 10 minutes. If you are using a traditional double boiler, pour the butters and oils into a glass container (one that you can blend with a hand held mixer). Let it cool.
- When the bowl is cooled enough so that you can touch the outside with your hands, transfer it to the fridge and place a loose piece of parchment on top to prevent anything from dripping into it.
- Let the bowl sit for 1-2 hours. You will know the mixture is ready to whip when it has solidified and there is no gooey center.
- Using the mixer’s whisk attachment, whip the mixture on high for 3 minutes.
- Pause the mixer and use a silicone spatula to scrape the mixture down from the sides of the bowl. Whip for another 1-2 minutes, until the butter starts to look like airy, fluffy frosting.
- Add your essential oils and mix well with the spatula.
- Transfer your body butter to the glass jars and cap tightly. Keep out of sunlight and away from heat. To prevent hardening, do not refrigerate. The body butter will last for 3 months.
